Mendful Core Competencies Training

The Mendful Core Competencies Training prepares students with multidimensional tools to use either on the Mendful platform to help clients resolve conflicts, or in their own private practice or personal lives, or some combination of these.

Important things to know:

  • The training is tuition-based — students pay to take the training. Learn more about our tuition pricing model

  • The next remote training starts in October 2026, and takes place over three long weekends over six months, with an estimated five hours per week of study and practice in between those weekends.

  • The training provides a grounding in both Nonviolent Communication mediation, based in the work of Marshall Rosenberg, and also related somatic (body) and language skills. You can learn more about the curriculum here.

  • Working on the app is not guaranteed by simply taking the training. Students must qualify to work as Associate Coaches or Level 1 Certified Coaches based on their skill level.

    • Doing all the recommended reading and practices greatly increases the chances of qualification to work on the app.

  • There are no prerequisites to take for the training.  However, you do need to apply

Mendful is different

As far as we have seen, Mendful's multidimensional approach is unusual in the conflict resolution world. Past trainees have included people with advanced degrees in conflict resolution; conflict resolution professionals; practitioners with decades of NVC experience, and a Fulbright scholar.

Professionals take the Mendful Core Competencies Training (MCCT) for a variety of reasons:

  • To prepare to work on the Mendful platform as a paid Conflict Resolution Coach

  • To augment their conflict resolution or therapy skills for use in their own practice

  • For personal growth, life skills, and practice community

Certified Mendful coaches and coaches-in-training can provide services and earn income on the Mendful platform.

Jill Nagle brings an incredible wealth of body, mind, spirit and emotional intelligence to the Mendful training.

She founded Evolutionary Workplace, a consultancy with a focus on dismantling white supremacy, and Wisdom of the Body: Beyond Talk Therapy which offered the possibility of non-sexual physical touch along with deeply attuned listening and empathy. Through that practice, she also created and ran a 9-month Immersion program in 2017-18 using many of the techniques now available through Mendful. She also used many of those same techniques in Evolutionary Workplace's 22nd Century Leaders program, co-led with Dr. Cleo Manago, for white anti-racist leaders.

Jill's background includes Nonviolent Communication (NVC) based in the work of Marshall Rosenberg, Convergent Facilitation based in the work of Miki Kashtan, Somatic Abolitionism with Resmaa

Menakem, Nonviolent Communication mediation with John Kinyon and Ike Lasater, and SEEDS mediation. She also has studied neo-Reichian character structures through a 2-year program with Lynda Caesara. She brings many of these streams together into the Mendful training to create an approach to conflict resolution that is, on the one hand, deep and connected, and on the other hand, practical and efficient.

Jill's work uses NVC as an important cornerstone of internal reference. To learn more about the Mendful training, please join us for one of the 1-hr workshops, or listen to a recording. See all upcoming events here.

Jill’s “hippie” bio

I've been participating in the Bay Area's Ecstatic Dance (and other Conscious Dance events) for 30+ years. I have a deep relationship with nature, and get a lot of healing, solace, replenishment, and exercise there these days, in the hills of Sonoma County.

I climb trees. I cultivate dorkitude as a spiritual practice. I create original desserts as an offering to the Divine. Happy to share recipes. I also have performed several times in the Bay Area in queer, feminist, and Jewish environments.

The experience in my life I hold most sacred (so far) is having given birth at home with no drugs, no doctors, and no machines. I figured, if every mammal on the face of the planet were considered fully capable of bringing forth life on her own, then surely so could I.

TESTIMONIALS

"Jill has an extraordinary understanding of the psychology of people coupled with compassion, wit and insight.  Plus, she is a joy to be around.  She helped me refine my own offerings, guiding me to better understand my own capabilities, and to get to the heart of what people want."

Susan Harrow, CEO of prsecrets.com and author of Sell Yourself Without Selling Your Soul (HarperCollins)

"The most profound growth and transformation of any class I have ever taken."

Nazila Tobaei, 2018-18 Wisdom of the Body Immersion student

"I have my M.A. in Transpersonal Psychology and have been in private practice for over a decade, with multiple certifications.  Working with Jill over the past couple of years has given me more than anything I've gained from any of those certifications."

Velina Lujan, California

"First of all, for such a serious subject, this was great fun and there was no shortage of humor.  I was a little afraid at first of saying or getting something wrong.  These fears soon vanished as Jill nurtured understanding and empathy without ever being judgmental."

Mark Steele, 22nd Century Leaders student
